Abstract
Climate change and related consequences are some of the most pressing for humanity in the twenty-first century. The threat related to climate change is existential in nature and needs to be mitigated via various mechanisms. Transitioning away from fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy resources ensures reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and lowers carbon footprint of anthropogenic activities. However, relying solely on a few forms of renewable energy such as solar and onshore wind energy may not be sufficient to meet the future energy demand. In addition, issues related to intermittency of these resources are a challenge which needs to be overcome by exploring other forms of clean energy sources. This chapter focuses on two forms of ocean energy resources viz. offshore wind energy and ocean thermal energy, as possible choices for furthering the clean energy transition while examining them from the lens of furthering the blue economy.
