AB - This thesis follows the guidelines for the alternate format and consists of three papers that have been written for submission to separate journals for publication. The first chapter provides estimates of avian species composition, activity and mortality. The second provides estimates of bat species composition, activity and mortality. The third is an analysis of Canada Goose foraging habits and vigilance behavior. All three chapters are intended for submission to peer-reviewed journals. Aaftab Jain helped design the studies, conduct the field work and all the data analysis and is the principal author of each paper. Dr. Rolf Koford assisted in the studies completion through advising, securing funding for Aaftab Jain, and editing the papers. Guy Zenner and Alan Hancock of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources conceived of and created the original project and study design and were integral to all the subsequent phases of the project. Ivan Ramler and Philip Dixon provided statistical guidance. Following the papers are general conclusions and appendices containing information on methods and data supplemental to the chapters. Literature cited in the first and last chapter is listed at the end of the thesis.
