AB - It has been known for some time that wind turbines can be a danger to birds and bats. Until now, the extent of the risks have been less known. This report summarizes the research from Europe and the U.S. that so far have been done in the field. The main conclusion is that if wind turbines are placed correctly, with proper knowledge of bird and bat behavior, risks will be minimized.The report contains knowledge that office at the county administrative boards and municipalities, policy makers and planners need to make informed judgments for the sustainable expansion of wind power on land and at sea. The report cites what is important to consider before licensing, areas that should be avoided, and species that are particularly vulnerable.
