AB - This compendium identifies various legal authorities which relate to the implementation of Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning (CMSP) in the United States. Various statutes are summarized and discussed, with a focus on how the statute will inform the CMSP process and how coastal and marine spatial plans (CMS Plans) will provide information for consideration in agency decision-making under the statute is provided. The compendium identifies statutory provisions based upon their applicability and focus as they relate to CMSP; given that a statute may have more than one focus, some statutes are discussed more than once. Recognizing that CMSP must be implemented in a manner that is consistent with international law, a brief discussion of international law, including the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention, is also presented. Finally, key Executive Orders relating to actions or programs relevant to CMSP are similarly summarized and discussed.
