Abstract
Cultural ecosystem services or CES is the concept used to explain the benefits humans receive from the ecosystem. The idea is that goods and services are derived from the ecosystem through ecological functions. Usually, the benefits described are economic, but this study also focuses on the spiritual and aesthetic.
The most difficult is comparing economic values and other intangibles. For example, is the electricity production more important than the symbolic value of the sea? There are many deviations to these questions as well such as the unknown long-term implications of offshore wind farms. There is also the possibility that the public’s attitude towards wind farms can change over time and even among different age groups. Currently, older people hold negative views of wind farms, while younger people seem not to care. Is this a positive sign for the future? These are the questions that are still left unanswered.
