Participatory Processes as Twenty-First-Century Social Knowledge Technology

In this chapter we outline the metaphor and narrative work of participatory processes as they contribute to social knowledge in highly contested multi-use and multiuser marine spaces. By adopting a sociotheoretic approach, we can provide multiple layers of contextualization to establish the conditions in which participatory processes have emerged, explore their distinguishing characteristics as diverse and independent knowledge-generating entities, and consider their wider influences.
